Dear TWU Members:

Let me start off by saying congratulations on successfully bargaining your first contract. Now that you have a negotiated agreement in force, it’s time to fully charter your unit of Allegiant flight attendants as a local Union of the TWU.

To enable us, under the TWU Constitution, to get your local union chartered and functioning as soon as possible, it is first necessary for as many of you as possible to sign a membership application, and to see to it that these are returned to us as soon as possible. Your signed membership application will secure for you the right, once the local is chartered and functioning, to fully participate in the life of the union: to vote in elections and ratifications, attend and participate in Union meetings, nominate or second the nomination of others, and run for Union office. It is also vital for you to give immediate attention to a second document, the checkoff authorization card. Signing this card is by far the easiest and best way to assure yourself that you will meet your monthly financial obligation to the union in a timely manner — a necessity for a member, if she/he is to remain a good standing member of the union and thus able to fully participate in the activities of the union.

We urge you to get your Membership Application and check off Authorization Cards completed and sent to us as soon as possible — our target date for the chartering your local and beginning of the local election process is February 21. Please send both cards to:

Transport Workers Union of America, AFL-CIO
Attn: TWU Local 577 – Shavon Gibson
501 3rd Street NW – 9th Floor
Washington, DC 20001

Only members who have filled out membership applications and who are meeting their dues obligations to the union will be able to nominate, be nominated, run, and vote in the local elections.

While you wait for the local chartering and election process to begin, we urge you to better acquaint yourself with important TWU policies by visiting the TWU website at

Getting to this point has been a long road and it is with great pleasure and anticipation that I welcome you to the TWU. Our Union is characterized by an active and empowered membership and I look forward to you joining the growing ranks of TWU members fighting every day to improve the terms of conditions of employment and for justice and fairness on the job.
